Dancing With the Stars – All Stars – Week 5 part 1

BEVERLY HILLS, CA - JULY 27: (L-R) Dancers Ke...

Another close call last week with Kirstie and Bristol in the bottom two.  Bristol went home but it was touch and go for my girl Kirstie.

I was extremely tired last night after a fun evening listening to the Superintendent of our school district tell us how doomed we were due to the multiple budget cuts, so I am watching this on Tuesday morning.  But it’s ok because no one is going home tonight.  Tonight is another episode of dancing.  Half of the dancers will do their individual dance and the other half their team dance each night.

This is “Guilty Pleasure” week, the Stars picked their guilty pleasure songs to dance to.  Or just another gimmick because the show is getting stale?  I hope not.

Kelly Monaco and Val Chmerskovskiy – Samba (Want You Back): Rehearsing for two dances this week seems to be taking it’s toll on Kelly.  I didn’t recognize any actual Samba moves in the dance and it seems neither did Len.  Score: 24.5

Side Note: What the hell is growing out of Carrie Ann’s head?

Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd – Rumba (I Will Always Love You): Uh, Um, gulp.  Excuse me I need a moment.  DAMN!  Score: 29.5

Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerskovskiy – Quick Step (Mrs. RObinson): Ahhh my poor Kirstie, without Bristol around Maks is right, she is the lowest dancer on the totem pole.  This was a great dance, I hope it will be enough to keep her.  Score: 25.5

Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke – Samba (Copacabana): The Samba is a Party dance and Emmitt Smith is a party animal.  Score: 29

Team Call Me Maybe:

Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough, Apolo Anton Ono and Karina Smirnoff, Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani, Sabrina Bryant and Louis Van Amstel

I felt sorry for Apolo being the only non pro guy on the stage, he would have a lot of pressure.  But he not only held his own, they all did.  I really enjoyed every bit of this, even tho the song itself is annoying as hell.  I especially enjoyed the switching of couples where they went from individual to team to individual.  Team Score: 29.5 (The first 10 from Len this season)

I can’t wait to watch this season!

  2. All right – last night’s show was one of the most entertaining episodes of DWTS I’ve seen. (You will note that I am actually posting my comment on Tuesday night, which means I’ve seen Part Two – Giles and the towel??? OMG!!!!!)

Carrie Ann is wearing a bump it, but she still looks good.

Liked Kelly and Val, but now that I think about it, yeah, they were a little flat. That being said, I think they got hit by the “first up” curse – the first pair seldom gets that good a score for some reason. Still, as much as I love Kirstie and Maks (who has finally met his match), she’s still the weakest dancer. Emmit is next – maybe it’s my allergy to Barry Manilow, but while I liked his samba, I was not that wowed. After that, it’s pretty tough.

As for Giles (pardon me while I wipe the drool off my chin), there’s a reason his performance literally knocked Carrie Ann off her chair. I’d have fallen out of mine if it weren’t a recliner. My husband said that if I run into him again in person, I have full permission to fawn.

Loved the team dance – it was clean, it was spectacular. What more could you want? Yes, I still have a thing for Dereck.

  3. When are you posting tonight’s (Tuesday’s) thoughts? I’m dying to write about it. Seriously – these were easily the most entertaining nights of this show ever.
