Sorry, I couldn’t think of a more apropo title.

Friday started out like a normal day, actually it started out better than normal.

I wake up early, took a long hot shower and had time to sit around in my robe and get some work done before I had to leave at 830 to meet the ladies for breakfast.  I cleared out a lot of my email, did some farming (shut up) and got 3 or the 10 articles I had due this weekend done.  All before 8am.

When I came home from breakfast, the front door of the house was opened slightly.  The screen door was closed so I didn’t think much of it.  You see the threshold has been wonky and the door is really hard to close, when I left that morning I made sure I closed it hard and tight, but others left after me and so I just assumed they didn’t close it well.

I grabbed the mail from the mail box and went in the house, heading straight to the bathroom, I had been having an upset tummy for a little while after breakfast and spent a bit of time in there – ahem.

When I emerged, I walked to the kitchen and put away the Roomie’s mail and as I was going to put Kathy’s mail away I noticed the drawer to the printer stand was open and some items were tossed on the floor.  Note – the house in it’s usual state is a state of disarray so seeing something on the floor or “out of place” is not in and of itself alarming.  I picked up the items from the floor and went to put them away thinking who the hell went in this drawer and why the hell did they throw this stuff on the floor?!  Then a thought occured to me and I looked up accross the room and gasped – my laptop was gone!  I dropped everything back to the floor and went rushing to where my laptop usually sits, yep GONE!  I ran to the back of the house and noticed items tossed on Kathy’s bed.  I reached for my phone and remembered that I had forgotten to charge it the night before and it had dies during breakfast, and of courese the thieves had taken my charger that was attached to my laptop as well.  FUCK!

I have to go out side to my car, turn it on and charge my phone before it will allow me to make a call.  When I go outside I make a mental note of an old Volkswagen Van standing in front of the house that was not there when I got home.  There is a man inside just sitting and reading.  as I am on the phone with the police department about 5 minutes in to the call the van drives away and I make a note of the liscense plat WRY KNOT.

An officer arrives shortly thereafter, I have since called Kathy and she too pulls up in front of the house and we all go back inside together.  We notice a broken window near the rear of the house that was used as an entry point, the tossing of a few drawers in Kathy’s room, and the tossing of many drawers in my bedroom.  All that is missing are my 2 laptops, Adam’s MAC and the Nintendo Wii.  When Forensics showed up, she was unable to lift any usable fingerprints.

I spent the rest of the day kind of in a daze, Chris dropped off the grand kids, so I had to hold everything together around them.  But as soon as they went to bed last night, I lost it.  I sat sobbing on the couch, sobbing with the feeling of violation.  I have never felt that way before.  We had had our home burgled when I was a kid, but I was never old enough to feel the brunt of it.  I now have a better understanding of some of the memories of others actions during that time.

I couldn’t sleep in my bedroom last night.  I slept on the couch.  At one point I had to go in there to get something of Caitlyn’s and it was all I could do not to scream and cry.  My things thrown everywhere (note, my bedroom looks like something you would see on Hoarders, I kid you not. But it is my mess and I know where everything in there is.).  To see stuff of my mom’s taken from my drawers and closets and tossed about on the floor, pieces of things broken indiscriminately.  I just couldn’t – can’t – handle it.

I don’t know what I am going to do tonight.  Probably sleep in the spare bedroom, maybe stay with a friend.  I can’t bring myself to go in there and clean yet, I just simply can’t.

NOTE TO THIEVES IF YOU ARE READING THIS: You can keep all the electronics, just please put my pictures and word docs on a flash and drop it in my mailbox.  You know where I live.

  1. Adrienne, I saw your title and took a double take….thought I had read it wrong, and then I had a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach what you were going to say. I am so so sorry this happened to you or anyone for that matter. You know all they wanted was a quick turn of something into cash, not thinking twice about what would be in there that might actually mean something to the person they took it from. You are right..F*****s. I hope they catch them. Maybe if they try and sell them or pawn them they will catch them. I sure hope for your sake it was not someone you know and they knew what you had in your house. That is they way it turns out lots of times. Hugs….

  2. fuckers is right. i’m so sorry, this sucks big time!! thinking of you!

  3. Oh Adrienne! When I read this on twitter, my heart dropped for you. Those ASSHOLES. People are just disgusting. I’m so sorry your personal space has been violated, I don’t blame you for not wanting to go in that room.

I am so sorry – I know how awful it is to have things stolen from your home – I hope you are able to recover or replace things soon and try to forget about those fuckers. :(
