Have you ever heard the phrase, if you can’t bring Mohammad to the mountain then we will bring the mountain to Mohammad. I don’t know it’s origin, nor is that pertinent to my story.
Part of the reason for the extended length of my visit was to reaquaint with old friends from High School. We had a small get together the first week, but one person who said she would be there had another thing come up last minute and couldn’t attend. So I hounded her day in and day out with facebook messages asking when we were gonna get together, giving her my schedule of events so she could squeeze me in. Unfortunately her daughter was busy at school preparing for a big solo perforamance last weekend and ever the dutiful mom, she was volunteering and helping out wherever she could, high school friendships be damned!
On Friday evening another friend and I were planning on getting together anyways and when trying to decide what to do, she said, let’s go see her. I googled my little brain out, figured out which school her daughter attended, what time the Bandarama would be, we got a google map and were on our way.
When we arrived at the school we asked the first set of ladies we came upon if they knew “Suzie Q. Brandstater” (totally not her name), one said she knew her and that she was there, in the gym, watching the event. Without a clue of what she was wearing and without having seen her in over 15 years other than pictures on facebook, we headed in to the gym and I spotted her sitting on the bleachers. We waited for a song to finish and then sidled up next to her like no big deal. SHe glanced over and saw friend 1 who is local and was surprised that she was there, then she glanced up and saw me and yelled my name.
After much hugging and interfering with the people around us, we settled in to enjoy the show. Her daughter did a great solo, the bands all performed very well and it was an enjoyable evening at a high school event.
Hating to steal her from her family but insisting that she run away with us, we headed to a local diner and spent 3 hours sitting sipping sodas and reminiscing.
I may be a mountain, but I am totally portable.
