Old Friends

And by old I mean friends that have been friend afor a long time, not that any of them (or I) are old by any means.

Anyways, when I was younger (note not young, but younger), I had a core group of friends in high school.  In alphabetical order and in no order of preference they were Cecil, Debbie, Janine, Patti, Robin and Sammy.  They were my go to people.  We all had friends other than each other, but they were always the ones I felt safe around.  Feeling safe was/is very important to me.

When we moved out of Detroit I felt like my safety blanket had been ripped out from underneath me.  I know now, that the move was done in my best interest, but I don’t know if it actually was my best interest since that is when I truly took a turn for the worst (granted I was a pretty bad kid before, but the move brought the bad to the forefront with a vengence).

I skipped school a lot of Fridays so I could take the bus down to Detroit and spend the weekends with my friends.  Because of some really stupid choices on my part, I don’t remember more than half of those fun times.  Heck I don’t even remember most of the parties that I had at MY HOUSE (my mom went away for quite a few weekends), that sounded like they were a lot of fun.  But thankfully my friends (or mainly Sam) do.

While I am home on this long visit I had the chance to meet up with most of these lovely people and some others from school as well.  Everyone is the same, no one looks to have aged over the last 25 years since high school.  It couldn’t have been over 20 years since I have seen them, we fell back into being “friends” the moment we all hugged.

One of the most precious parts of my life are the friendships I have had.  I sometimes wonder if any of them realize the impact they have had on my life.

Hmmm. I seem to remember learning how to patch a wall at mom’s when “nobody” had had a party there. Was that one of your nicknames?
