Sea Otter Pup

I received an email from the Long Beach Aquarium that they have a new family member.

Isn't she cute?!

From the Long Beach Aquarium website:

Earlier this month the Aquarium of the Pacific welcomed a baby sea otter pup. The pup is a female that was found separated from her mother in Northern California. Sea otters rescued in California are managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which deemed this rescued pup non-releasable to the wild as she had not yet learned the necessary survival skills. The otter was transferred to the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Sea Otter Research and Conservation program for temporary care until a permanent home was found.

The Aquarium of the Pacific offered to help, and the baby otter made her way to Southern California, arriving at the Aquarium on Friday, March 16, 2012. Aquarium staff members have been working around the clock to care for and feed the pup.

The otter pup is between nine and ten weeks old and will remain behind the scenes at the Aquarium until she is large enough to join the Aquarium’s other otters on public exhibit.

I can’t wait to go see this little girl.  I love watching the sea otters playing.
