The Talk on CBS

I was invited to attend the Season Premiere of The Talk on CBS.  Unfortunately I had to work the same day but my dear friend Philip took my place and agreed to write about it for me.  He was such a trooper being the ONLY man in the entire audience!  Philip is a freelance writer, living in Southern California. He can be reached through his website, authorphilip.com.

The heat was doing us in. Some other bloggers and I were standing in an underground parking structure waiting to be taken to Studio 16 for the season premiere of The Talk. The scheduled guests? None other than mega-celeb Jamie Lee Curtis. The angle? Neither the hosts, the guests, nor the audience members were allowed to wear any make up! Frankly, with the heat, it made perfect sense.

After being given our VIP badges, we hopped a golf cart to the studio. I can’t lie—it felt great to get glares from the non-VIP, line-waiting audience members. We were rushed right in and took a seat with the rest of the bloggers (ten in all). The warm-up guy taught us how to clap; I was asked to put on a bathrobe (the only give away); and we were ready to go!

Jamie Lee Curtis spoke of how revolutionary it was that everyone was sans makeup. She was a tad sanctimonious, but when you look as good as she does without make up, I guess you’re allowed a few idiosyncrasies. Sharon Osbourne looked the best with no make up, but then again, she admitted to having her eyebrows and eye lashes dyed earlier.

After the taping, we bloggers were given a private audience with the ladies where we got to ask questions. They talked about tips for filling in gray spots in your hair (eye liner and eye brow pencil, who knew?!) and how scary chemical peals are. That said, Julie Chen admitted to two over the summer.

All in all, a lovely experience. They definitely need to turn up the air conditioning in the studio, and the give aways could have been better, but the crew was extremely kind, the pacing was right on target, and I got to meet Sharon Osbourne.

The Talk airs on CBS and is syndicated throughout the country so check your local listings for times and channels.  You can also like their page on face book and follow them on Twitter @TheTalk_CBS.

All of the hosts are active on Twitter:

Neither I nor Philip received any compensation (other than the robe which I think we may have to go to court over to determine custody) for this post.

  1. I was wondering who the nice young man was among us bloggers (you know, he was the ONLY man in the audience). I’m so sorry you weren’t able to be there — but hey — you beat me to the post!
