What Women Want

by Adrienne Van Houten on July 20, 2009

Isn’t that the question of the ages?

Since the dawn of time, men around the world have been trying to make women happy. Are we that finicky? Are we that hard to please?

Personally, I think I am pretty easy to please, I speak openly and clearly about what I want and don’t want. I will not tell you yes when I mean no and I will not lie to you to save your “feelings”. (and I would appreciate the same in return)

If everyone would be honest and speak out, we would never have to wonder
what anyone wanted because we would essentially make it known.

This time around the asker is Ford. In an effort to reach out to their female customer base they want to know “What Women Want”.

I will be participating in a tour of a Chicago plant on Thursday which will include a demonstration of the self parking Active Park Assist System (rumor has it a blind person can parallel park a car) and the My Key, which allows parents to control the highest speed and decibel level in a car driven by their teenager.

As a part of the event we will be participating in a roundtable discussion where I will be bringing in YOUR comments and tweets answering the age old question What Women Want.

I agree with SueBob whose initial response to my quest was “reliability”. Isn’t that what everyone wants? But I would also add to the top of my list, twice as many cupholders as there are seats.

So tell me, what do YOU want when looking to buy a new car?

Personal responsibility!! That is exactly what we need more of in this world. Someone asked me the other day “what are we going to do about C, she is taking too much on?” We are going to do nothing. C is an adult and if she needs help it is her responsibility to ask for it. Who am I to second guess her decision to “take too much on.” Ugh! But then C doesn’t get to turn around and say “and no one even offered to help.” Sorry, I kind of got off track there.

What do I want in a car. I want an affordable, reasonably sized, hybrid car. I don’t want an SUV (or any facsimile thereof) and I don’t want to have to pay a premium. I want the hybrid to be the standard. Oh, yeah, and more and better cup holders.
