Toast to the Red Carpet

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I Can't Believe It's Not Butter!® - Original Soft Spread

Toast to the Red Carpet – LIVE, presented by I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter! is inviting movie fans to an online red carpet viewing party, complete with an exclusive roundtable of Hollywood stars, and best picture-themed recipes for your own home viewing party. It will be streaming live on the I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter! Facebook page on February 26 from 3:00-4:30 PST.

I love the Academy Awards, it is one of the few awards shows that the West Coast gets live and unspoiled.  I am lacking in my Annual Best Picture post because there are two movies I haven’t seen yet, Hugo and tree of Life.  Hoping to rectify that this week before the telecast.  At this point it is a toss up for me.  I think there were a lot of “good” films this year, but nothing has stood out as “best picture” for me, yet.  But all of this will be covered when I finally get around to that post.

Back to the point of this post, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter! is also offering one of you lovely readers with a FREE tub of their yummy product!  All you have to do is leave a comment below telling us why you are going to watch the Toast to the Red Carpet – LIVE online show and interact during the Toast to the Red Carpet – LIVE online show on the I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter Facebook page.  It’s that simple.  A winner will be chosen on Sunday, February 26 during the Oscar telecast, using Random.org and that winner will receive a coupon for the free tub of I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter! in the mail.

My favorite thing to eat while watching award shows is the same thing I love to eat at the movies – POPCORN!  But at home I get to play with the recipe a bit.  Instead of plain old butter on my popcorn, I like to mix in some parmesan cheese or italian seasoning.  Makes for a scrumptious bite every time!

Giveaway coupon is being provided by I Can’t Believe it’s Not Butter! just in case the FTC was wondering and checking their guidelines and what not.

Turn on Your Hot Light

Krispy Kreme 10

Image via Wikipedia

The first time I saw Krispy Kreme was in Virginia in the late 80′s.  Driving home from after working the midnight shift and see the beautiful sign that said the doughnuts were Hot Now.  How can you resist that.  I immediately pulled in and bought a dozen.  OMG the YUM!  I made it home with only a half dozen.

About 10 years ago we got our first Krispy Kreme here in California and of course we had to go in when we saw that sign blinking at us.  They did not let us down.

Here it is almost 30 years since that first experience and Krispy Kreme is taking technology by storm.

  • Mobile Locator- Using your smartphone, you can enter in your zip code to locate your nearest Krispy Kreme location.
  • Website Locator- From your computer, the website locator will help you locate any Krispy Kreme shop in the United States. The website locator will also identify locations with Hot Lights on in your search area. ,
  • iPhone/Android Mobile App- Allows you to register to receive alerts when the Hot Light is on in your area.  You can also get directions to your nearest Krispy Kreme and share Hot Light alerts with friends and family.
  • Tweet Your Zip Code- Tweet #HotNow and your zipcode and we’ll tweet you your nearest Krispy Kreme location.
  • Desktop Widget- When downloaded, a Hot Light icon on your desktop taskbar will alert you when the Hot Light is activated at your nearest shop. The desktop widget also allows you to print directions, search for other locations, and share Hot Light info on Facebook and Twitter.

Krispy Kreme has given me 2 of their new 2012 calendars to giveaway to my readers.  Each calendar features 3 coupons each month.  The coupons range from FREE coffee to a FREE dozen doughnuts!  All you have to do is enter using the Rafflecopter widget below.

Thankful to Have Choices – Even When I Make Poor Ones

Most of you know already where I am today and what I am doing.

Some of you even know part of the reason why.

But mostly it’s my own fault that I am alone on a family holiday.  A few years ago I made the choice to join my mother and sisters back East on Thanksgiving and their traditional casino run to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  I did that for 4 years and in that time the rest of my family back here formed their own traditions.

My son has moved to Australia, Kathy would rather go to a restaurant than have a family meal at home and Marisa has dinner at the roller rink she works at.  Which leaves me – who LOVES making big meals – high and dry now.

I tried inviting everyone over for desserts but was shot down by the one I wanted over the most.

So I will be watching the parade alone today, heading off to the West Side Community Dinner and sleeping in on Black Friday morning.

I’m not bitter, but I am sad.

But I am also thankful.  I am thankful that I and my family have these choices.  There are so many families who have no choice, they simply don’t know where their next meal is coming from especially such a big Thanksgiving Day meal.

Feeding America is a national organization that feeds those in need.  $1 can feed 8 families.  Hold on, let me repeat that so it can sink in.  ONE DOLLAR CAN FEED EIGHT FAMILIES!

The voracious Megan put out a challenge to her fellow bloggers.  She has challenged us to write about this important issue on a day when most of us are giving thanks for all that we have.  Giving us and you the chance to reflect on those that do not have.

I am now going to challenge you.  I challenge you to donate $5.00.  For every $5.00 that is donated 40 American families can be fed a meal.  Think of that $5 in change on your bureau.  Or that one latte you get each morning at the coffee shop.

If you donate, head over to Megan’s site and enter her giveaway!

Not so Tiny Prints

It’s almost time to send out Holiday Greetings again.  I have never been big on mailing cards, but I do love receiving them.  Holiday cards however are like blog comments, mostly reciprocal.

Now it is so easy, no one should have an excuse.  Tiny prints not only makes beautiful cards using your photo but you can even take it a step further and upload you mailing list so they will either address (and return address) all your envelopes and ship them to you to add notes as needed. Or have them mailed directly from Tiny Prints!

Now if only I had some cute grand kid pictures to upload and make into adorable holiday cards.

I was supposed to be compensated for this post with a $25 Tiny Prints gift card, but instead I am offering it to one of YOU!  Just follow the directions below and you can get started sending out your holiday cards.  Just add me to your mailing list please!

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Space Adventure – Giveaway

We received a copy of Mickey Mouse Space Adventure to review and just as I thought it would be, it was a big hit.  The twins love Mickey Mouse and all of his entourage.  Even Caitlyn at almost 6 was entertained and interested.

From the Press Release:

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Space Adventure is a 45 minute, full-length space-themed escapade, geared for kids 2 to 5 years of age, that invites young viewers to discover outer space and use their problem-solving skills while they watch. In this specific adventure, Mickey and pals head to space where they tour the Moon, Mars and the Rings of Saturn as well as meet new alien friends while on the hunt for a unique space treasure.  Packaged with a surprise, never-before-seen “Goofy’s Thinking Cap” episode and fun, glow-in-the-dark space-themed stickers, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Space Adventure will be available for purchase as a 2-Disc (DVD + Digital Copy) Combo  Pack and includes glow in the dark stickers.

At 70 minutes for both episodes, it is perfect for lying down before nap time.

My favorite part is Moon Man Chip and Moon Man Dale.  You don’t see much of them anymore.

In more Disney news, The Vault is opening and Lady and the Tramp is coming to DVD and BluRay on February 7, 2012 (just in time for my birthday) and Cinderella will follow in the Fall.

Disney is kind enough to offer one of my readers a free copy of this movie, just follow the directions below.

Club Penguin

I mentioned to you last week how enthralled Caitlyn was with Club Penguin while we were at the Disney Interactive Halloween Bash.  This week I am going to give your child the same chance for enthrallment.

Disney is offering one of my readers:

Club Penguin 6 month membership (membership to Club Penguin does not include this amazing Disney Cast Member who sat with Caity for almost a half an hour indulging her every whim).

A plush Club Penguin character.

A Club Penguin “How to Draw a Penguin” sketch book (also not included is the Disney Cast Member with the patience of Job).

Kids can play Club penguin without a membership.  Membership just gives you a few more options.  Caity does just fine without it and doesn’t even know it is available.

McDonalds Happy Meal – Giveaway

I can remember days when my kids wouldn’t eat any food healthy or un, and if I as their parent would bribe them with a toy or cash or a car it was nobody’s business but my own.  Take my grand daughter Caitlyn for example.  Monday she had dinner while skyping with her Uncle Adam, she had 2 hot dogs and a quarter of a box of Kraft Mac n Cheese.  After the Skype call she had another serving of the Mac n Cheese before we headed off to her Art class.  After Art Class I hadn’t had any dinner so we hit the McDonalds drive thru.  She decided she was still hungry and ate a four piece chicken McNuggets and all her fries (she did not eat the apple slices, she saved them for her sister).  All of this was consumed after having breakfast in the morning and lunch at school.  The following day her dinner consisted of a cheese sandwich, 2 slices of white bread and 2 slices of American cheese (not grilled).

In the not too distant past in a land not too far away, a band of healthies took toys away from kids because they thought the food being given with the toys was “not healthy enough”.

McDonalds has gone a step further in Southern California and is now including apple slices in every Happy Meal.  It used to be a choice (and still is in some parts of the country) to get Apple Slices instead of French Fries.  But now you can get both.  Yes the size of the french fries has been reduced and no I haven’t noticed a price increase in the Happy Meal (honestly I don’t look at the price of a Happy meal before I order it, I know it is going to cost a lot, kind of like I don’t bother looking at the calorie count of the double quarter pounder meal before I order it either).

What I am saying is feeding kids is a crap shoot.  I don’t care how good or a bad a parent you are, you really can not dictate when or what your child is going to eat.  And if you can? Well, I tip my hat to you.

Below is a giveaway for a $20 McDonalds Arch Card (giftcard).  The winner will be notified via email and must respond within 24 hours or another winner will be chosen.  The gift card is being provided by McDonalds, because otherwise I would be using it for myself.
