I can hear most of you now. Veggie Dip? Yeah right Adrienne, you expect us to believe that you ate veggie dip? Yes, yes I do. Of course I don’t expect you to believe that I ate ALL of it or even more than a taste, but I will never write a review of something I haven’t at least tried.
I was given a coupon for a free package of Otria Greek Yogurt Veggie Dip (see the picture over there?). I checked out the different flavors – Cucumber Dill Feta, Garden Herb Ranch, Salsa Cilantro, Spinach Artichoke and my choice Chipotle Cheese. Chipotle Cheese I deemed to be the lesser of the evils. Not one of those flavors appealed to me. But I figured, I like cheese, I like a little spice, how bad can it be?
I wish Adam were here.
I decided to try it on a cracker since I don’t like (and can’t chew) most raw veggies to dip. I kinda cheated and took a very teeny little bit at first and tasted pretty much just cracker. Gathering my strength and plugging my nose I dipped the next cracker deeper into the container and took a bite before I could change my mind.
Did I mention how much I miss Adam?
I have to say, I didn’t like it. I didn’t like it one bit. But then when I read the description (I know I should have looked beforehand) I noticed I have never even heard of the “cheese” that comprises the Chipotle Cheese. “Combines smoked chipotle and cayenne pepper with cotija cheese to give veggies that extra kick”. What the heck is Cotija cheese? What ever happened to good old fashioned Cheddar? Why do we have to go fancy?
Where’s Adam when I need him?
I am bringing a package of the Cucumber Dill flavor to the next get together I attend and we’ll see what people with real taste buds think.
EDITED TO ADD:
I brought the Garden Herb Ranch to a gathering of friends(the store was out of the Cucumber Dill) and it was an amazing hit! I didn’t do anything to change it just took off the top and served it with some simple crudites, carrots, radishes, broccoli and grape tomatoes. I did try it myself and as I thought I would, I didn’t like it. I don’t like ranch, it is the whole mayonnaise aversion I think. Thankfully I was the only person there with that aversion because it was one of the first items on the buffet table to disappear.
So once again my reviewing a food product goes to show I have the palate of a picky 5 year old and you should always take my opinion with a grain of salt and try it for yourself!
I was one of the bloggers selected by T. Marzetti Company and Clever Girls Collective to host a Marzetti Otria Greek Yogurt Veggie Dip review. They provided me with product to test and compensation for my time. However, my opinions are entirely my own.
