Camping with Sid the Science Kid
I camped a lot as a kid, I kinda got camped out. I think I took my kids camping once maybe twice when they were young but they did get the experience with others (scouts, friends, school). I have a feeling my grand kids will not camp other than school or another group.
When the grand twins and I sat down to watch the new Sid Science Kid DVD: Sid’s Backyard Campout, they got excited about the idea of sleeping outside.
Madilyn loves watching Sid DVD’s because of all the music involved and Matthew enjoys the actual science and bugs, it’s a good mix for the two of them.
From the Press Release:
Pack some food and bring your backpack because Sid, Gerald and Dad are gearing up for a big adventure! They’re setting up tents for a campout in the backyard! Dad is eager to share his love of nature and demonstrates how to have a great time outside with the simplest of necessities. They look for animals, cook their own dinner, marvel at stars in the sky, roast marshmallows, and sing songs around the campfire. Join the adventure and sing along!
This DVD retails for only $6.99 and is a great bargain for a 45 minute fun time for the kids.
You Must be Brave
If you are going to see this movie.
I have been anxious to see Brave since seeing the first preview almost a year ago. So has Caitlyn. When I received the invite to a screening it was for a day when Caity was going camping with her dad so I had to go without her. I grabbed my trusty friend Sheila and we headed out.
We were both very excited, a female-centric movie is rare, especially where the female is supposedly strong and intelligent. There has been some kerfuffles on the internet regarding Disney’s portrayal of boys in the ads being sexist. Why do we have to dumb one side down to make the other look more intelligent? Can’t we all just get along? (RIP Rodney)
After almost 45 minute delay because of technical difficulties on the part of AMC, we were finally ready to watch.
More than once both Sheila and I jumped in our seats and exclaimed when the BIG BLACK BEAR came into the shot. I don’t know how Caitlyn would have reacted, she is a braver girl than I but I am kind of glad she wasn’t there. Perhaps we will wait for the DVD to come out before seeing it again.
Other than the violence I enjoyed the rest of the film. There was a good portrayal of the mother daughter interaction and the triplet boys were adorable.
If your child is less of a fraidy cat than me, you should be ok. Know your child.
PS. Get there early for the amazing Pixar short La Luna and stay till the end of the credits for a cute little epilogue.

Embarking on one of his most daring and exciting adventures ever, Jake and his kid pirate pals, Izzy and Cubby, along with lookout parrot Skully, must use teamwork to find Peter’s shadow and return it to its rightful owner.
However, their mission is nearly thwarted by the fiendish Captain Hook, and his bumbling first mate Mr. Smee.
But bravery and justice win the day and Jake and his Never Land pirate crew once again reveal what it takes to become heroes.
The twins were resistant at first, only because it was slated to be our nap time movie. Needless to say (don’t you hate that phrase? Is something is needless to say then why am I saying it?), they were so enthralled by the story their nap didn’t happen til it was over.here are 6 episodes in total on the DVD (but don’t tell the twins that!).

A Turtle’s Tale – Sammy’s Adventure *Giveaway*
A sea turtle who was hatched in 1959 spends the next 50 years traveling the world while it is being changed by global warming.
That pretty much sums up the movie on a whole. But when you break it down bit by bit you can see all the horrible things that have been happening to our environment over the years, not just by global warming but by our own human stupidity and carelessness.
Sammy goes through oil spills, trash in the water, getting caught in fishing and trapping nets not to mention dodging sharks and other predators.
The twins (3 years old) didn’t have much interest but Caitlyn (6 years old) was riveted. She was hurt and saddened at the idea of humans doing so many bad things to the turtle. She asked me why all the humans were trying to hurt him and I had to explain that not all the humans were bad but some were making bad choices. It reinforced the conversations we have had before about all of our choices having consequences sometimes we don’t notice the consequence but it is there nonetheless.
Turtle Tale will be available on DVD and Blu-Ray on April 3rd. Thanks to the lovely PR contact 2 readers will win a copy of their very own!

Breakfast Project
I was afforded a great opportunity recently. I got to enjoy a wonderful breakfast with Chef Ellie Krieger at the Sunset Marquis Hotel in Beverly Hills and then see the unveiling of the latest Got Milk poster with Salma Hayek.
During breakfast Chef Krieger reminded us about the importance of breakfast everyday and the nutritional benefits of including milk in that breakfast. She refers to milk as “liquid sunshine” because of the amount of Vitamin D you receive.
For me she was preaching to the choir. I have never met someone (that I haven’t given birth to) that drinks as much milk as me. It doesn’t matter what meal, or time of day, milk will always be involved. When I pack lunches for work, I freeze a water bottle of milk over night so that by lunch time it is defrosted enough that I have a milk slushie to go with my lunch.
During breakfast I tried a Strawberry Banana Smoothie and I have to admit it was pretty good. I may even venture to make some with the grand twins soon (Caitlyn doesn’t like strawberry).
After our breakfast we headed up to the unveiling where there was a ton of press crowded into a tiny room and us little ol’ bloggers squeezing in where we could to get a shot. When Salma Hayek came out it was like nothing I had ever seen before. I have lived in “Hollywood” for 20 years and yet I am oblivious to stars. More than once someone has had to point out someone famous to me and then I was just kinda huh ok about it. But these press people were going crazy for poor Ms Hayek “Salma, over here, no Salma over here, Salma right her for the ladies, Salma here for the Milk Drinkers, Salma look up, Salma look down!” It was insane.
After all the hullabaloo she told us all that she has wanted to do a Got Milk poster for a long time but could never get a response from them. Now finally that she is playing a cat (Puss in Boots – now available on DVD) they have asked her – coincidence? Didn’t matter, she was happy to oblige. She has also starred in the new Got Milk commercials both in English and Spanish.
I received no compensation for this post, but I did receive a lovely gift bag with milk inspired products.
