NMEDA

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of NMEDA. All opinions are 100% mine.

I’m not going to try and get you to buy something. I am not even going to recommend a product of any kind. I know SHOCKER! But I do want to tell you about a website. NMEDA (National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association)is a site dedicated to helping those in need of specialty equipment

NMEDA is the only association that promotes safe driving equipment for disabled people. They are a non-profit  organization and their members are required to adhere to the safety standards of the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).

I had a co-worker many moons ago whose mom was a parapalegic.  The car he drove to work every day was hers and everything was done by using hand controls, like a motorcycle almost.  I remember being fascinated by that.

NMEDA is the place to find the right equipment that fits YOUR needs.  Not every person nor their disability is the same.  If you need special equipment, you need to be sure that what you are getting is going to be right for you and is going to be SAFE for you.

As always, if you take advantage of this, please come back and let me know how it works for you.  This may be Adrienne’s House, but I always want to hear from you!

Remembering Maddie

One year ago today, I was working an election. When it was over I went to Outback to pick up dinner for Kathy and I. Sitting waiting to get out food, I checked my Twitter updates. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the tweet that said Maddie had passed away. I sat quietly in a booth tears streaming down my cheeks.

She was only a baby, it couldn’t be possible. She had just given me my first hug a few weeks prior. And that smile…..there are no words to describe how special her smile was. You just knew she was destined for big things in her life.

3yufmPerhaps, it was in her death that the big things manifested themselves:

The entire Twitter-verse came together in support of her parents.

There were purple Avatars streaming in every feed.

Twibbons that read F.O.M. (Friends of Maddie is a non-profit that her parents created in her honor) were prevalent for months afterwards.

Through Friends of Maddie, Heather has donated hundreds of survival bags to parents of children in NICUs across the country.

Thousands of walkers Marched for Maddie in the March of Dimes walk last year all across the United States, I believe there were less than 5 states that were not represented.

Team Maddie was the highest fundraising Family team for the March of Dimes last year raising over a hundred thousand dollars.

Definitely big things have come about because of her passing. But I know I and all of the others would take it all back to have her safe in her mother’s arms again.

We miss you Maddie.

ps. Don’t forget I am Marching for Maddie again this April 24th, I could still use some help reaching my goal of $500.

Thanks Easter Bunny Bawk Bawk

That is one of the few “holiday” commercials that has stuck in my brain throughout the years, the other is the ringing kisses at Christmas. Coincidence that both commercials belong to Hershey?  Hardly.  When it comes to marketing Hershey knows what they are doing.  One of the parts they do best is that they don’t do it all for themselves.

Recently as a part of Collective Bias, I was allowed to do a shop at Walmart for Hershey products (and some non-edible goodies also) to create a basket to donate to charity, as a part of Hershey’s Better Basket Program.  I chose to donate my basket (with a working mom in mind) to our local High School.  With budget cuts happening more and more here in California our school programs are suffering.  The Hoover High School Purple Circle is a non-profit foundation that supports the school by fulfilling teacher wish lists and volunteering when needed.

The event the Basket was involved in was the Barefoot Bingo, held in a Yoga studio owned by one of the parents.  It was a fun event that helped raise almost $1,000 for the foundation.

Thank you Hershey, and thank you Easter Bunny, bawk bawk.

Here is my whrrl story!
