disneytwenty-three_7.2-summer-2015_cover-copyrightAs Disneyland approaches its 60th anniversary, Disney twenty-three brings readers inside the party, with an in-depth look at how the park is celebrating this milestone with new parades, spectaculars, and enhancements to popular attractions. In preparation for the landmark occasion, D23: The Official Disney Fan Club took Disney Legend Marty Sklar—who worked at Disneyland on opening day—and Walt Disney Imagineering Chief Creative Executive Bruce Vaughn on a walk through Disneyland, where they reminisce about details from the past, such as the park’s legendary opening day, and look ahead at all the excitement yet to come.

Also in the Summer issue, available exclusively to D23 Gold Members, the Walt Disney Archives unveils rarely showcased ephemera from Disneyland’s opening including a media pass and concept art for freeway billboards promoting the world’s first theme park. And for Disney parks foodies, there’s a look at some of the park’s signature snacks, from Dole Whips and turkey legs to churros and Mickey Mouse ice cream bars.

Plus, film critic, historian, and co-producer of the Walt Disney Treasures DVD series Leonard Maltin gives a behind-the-scenes look at Disney’s three big summer movies featuring exclusive interviews with Tomorrowland director Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Ratatouille), Inside Out director Pete Docter (Monsters, Inc., Up), and Ant-Man director Peyton Reed. Each director offers Maltin—who authored the book The Disney Films—a fascinating look at the creation of the colorful, complicated, and magnificent worlds of their three films.

Next up is a new app from Disney interactive:

You guys see my posts on Instagram and Face Book all the time with the hashtag #Disneyside (you are following me on both Instagram and Face Book right?)  Now even though you’re not at Disneyland (sad for you) you can show your #Disneyside too!

i-9h3WwQm-X2Show Your Disney Side, a new photo transformation app, allows Disney Parks fans to magically transform into their favorite Disney Parks characters. Now available for iPhone and iPod touch, the Show Your Disney Side app lets users pick a Disney Parks character, take a selfie and then tap and swipe to watch their Disney Side come to life with special effects. The Show Your Disney Side app was created by TYFFON, an entertainment app developer and one of the participants of the 2014 Disney Accelerator, a highly selective, immersive mentorship and investment program for technology-enabled startups in the media and entertainment space.

With the Show Your Disney Side app, users can choose their favorite Disney Parks character from iconic attractions and experiences such as Frozen, Star Tours®, Pirates of the Caribbean® and Villains of Disney Parks. When users visit Disneyland® Resort or Walt Disney World Resort®, they can unlock special Haunted Mansion® characters such as the Hitchhiking Ghost and Madame Leota. They can also unlock these special characters by sharing three of their creations on Facebook or Twitter.

Users can personalize their Disney Side character with different costumes and frames. Then, by tapping or swiping the screen, their Disney Side will magically come to life with special effects, unique for each character. Photos and videos of each Disney Side creation can be saved and shared with family and friends right from the app.

Disney Side is the side of us that comes out to play the moment we step through the gates of a Disney Theme Park or interact with favorite Disney characters and stories. It’s the side that laughs bigger, screams louder, and just plain lives life to the fullest.

Show Your Disney Side is now available for free on the Apple App Store for iPhone and iPod touch at http://DisneySideApp.com.
